The only objective of this assignment is to make sure you get some C/C++ compiler working on whatever machine you will use to do your assignments. It’s best if you can arrange your own desktop or laptop system for this (rather than relying on lab computers), so you have a consistent workspace.

Here are some recommendations, with links:

• Microsoft Visual C++ Express Edition (free of charge, requires Microsoft Windows).

• Apple XCode (free of charge, requires Mac OS X).

Once you have the system installed, create a project that will allow you to run a hello-world program like the one provided in the lecture notes.

Edit the program to print out your name, and run it again.

Take a screen-shot of the output and the program (or use a cell phone camera or similar) and send me the image.
