Project description

On 5 September, we discussed lots of great project ideas. These included use of Raspberry Pi devices, mobile apps for security, some desktop app interface ideas, a web portfolio, and more.

In the end, we decided to work on a pair of sites to help teachers interact with their students:

  • classcheck will provide the capability for students to “check in” to a class based on a validation key, QR code, IP address, and/or their geographic location. Then it awards points and badges for good attendance. Students and the teacher can see a leaderboard of student performance.

  • gradechamp allows a teacher to maintain student scores and other data in a Google spreadsheet, and then communicate relevant data to students after they log in. A rudimentary form of this project appears at http://www.gradechamp.com/, where you should be able to log in using your MyLIU account.

The platform will be Google App Engine. The first step, due next week, is to work through the GAE “getting-started” tutorials.
