Our goal this semester will be to build a web service that allows students who want to buy and sell textbooks to coordinate with one another. Let’s call it “bookswap.”

I was inspired to this idea earlier this year, when I noticed students posting ad-hoc messages on the Brooklyn Campus Facebook page (see below).

Our service will have a page for each course and/or each text book. On that page, students can log in and offer either to buy or to sell the book. They can save their contact details to their profile to facilitate offline interactions with other registered users. After the transaction, either user can report the transaction as closed.
